skinnyskinny was started by Clara Williams, in order to fill a surprising void in the skin care market: there simply weren't any good soaps.

My background and education is in art. I have a BFA and MFA in sculpture and this had been both a successful and satisfying career path until I stumbled upon soap-making. I began making soap a few years ago for my family but quickly fell in-love with the combination of chemistry and artistry that soap-making requires. What began as a hobby quickly grew into a full-time pursuit and the seeds for this little company were planted. skinnyskinny now makes bar soaps, bath salts and we will be adding balms and body oils soon. All skinnyskinny soaps and bath products are made by us in our facility in Brooklyn, NY. All skinnyskinny products are made completely by hand from scratch from really great ingredients (extra-virgin oils, unrefined butters and essential oils). Our products contain at least 96% certified organic ingredients.

We believe in building our company with long-term and consistent ethical and environmental practices firmly in place. We buy from suppliers that we trust because of their own high ethical standards. We seek out ingredients and products from suppliers that adhere to fair trade and fair labor practices.

skinnyskinny purchases enough wind-power to cover all of our electricity usage. For everything else, including transportation, shipping and for stuff we can"t recycle/re-use and feel guilty about, we purchase carbon-offsets. This makes skinnyskinny a carbon-neutral manufacturer. Given that, we still try to minimize our energy use and our waste. In addition, we use 100% recycled, reclaimed, and sustainable materials for all of our packaging. We try to brand our products tastefully and intelligently so that it is easy for people to re-use our bottles and gift boxes.
